A nurse in Zambia swapped over 5,000 babies and she almost got away with it, if it weren’t for her confession. Why confess about the baby swap now? Apparently, Elizabeth Bwalya Mwewa came out clean, on her death bed, to dodge the wrath of hell.<\/p>\n

According to IBTimes<\/a>, the former nurse at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) confessed that she had swapped over 5,000 babies between 1983 and 1995. She is currently diagnosed and suffering from terminal cancer. On her death bed, looks like her conscience finally made an appearance, and Elizabeth came clean about the swapping babies during her service.<\/p>\n

“I have terminal\u00a0cancer\u00a0<\/a>and I know I will be dying soon. I wish to confess my sins before God and before all the affected people especially those who were giving birth at UTH during my service. I have found God. I’m now born again. I have nothing to hide, in the 12 years I worked in the maternity ward at UTH, I swapped close to 5,000 babies,”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

According to the former staff nurse, she had not been doing this for monetary gain, (life is not a Bollywood movie), rather for her, it was just fun.<\/p>\n

“If anyone’s born between 1983 and 1995, the chances are that their parents might not be their true biological parents as she had developed a habit of swapping babies just for fun.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Apparently, she was even the cause of divorce between many couples that suspected their child was not theirs.<\/p>\n

“So, take a good look at your siblings, if for example everyone is light and you are darkie… you are that child and I am really sorry for that”, she said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Naturally, this news went viral, and people asked how much truth is there to this story. According to Fact Check Africa<\/a>, none. An initial investigation revealed that there is no nurse by the name Elizabeth Bwalya Mwewa under the General Nursing Council of Zambia. Additionally, no midwife by that name had ever existed or worked at UTH.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
