Women in Pakistan experience harassment on an everyday basis. There is hardly any female in Pakistan who has not been a victim of it. Some openly share their experience while others choose to remain silent. No matter what the course of action is, this bitter reality remains unchanged that many women feel unsafe in the country by default. Recently, a renowned female photographer shared how she got harassed by a veteran of her field.<\/p>\n

What actually happened?<\/h2>\n

Famous Pakistani photographer, Izzah Shaheen Malik aka Pictroizzah<\/a> took to Instagram to disclose that her colleague and veteran of the industry, Irfan Ahson, recently harassed her. There was a disagreement between both the photographers on a technical issue which eventually led to a bitter fight. Here’s what Izza posted on her Instagram story section.<\/p>\n

According to Izza most of the male photographers sided with Irfan Ahson despite the fact that he used inappropriate language for the female photographer.<\/p>\n

Izzah’s stories reveal a dark side of our society where it is extremely convenient for men to blame and shame women. Even the supposedly empowered women find it challenging to stand up to this harassment and discrimination.<\/p>\n

Are women in Pakistan safe?<\/h2>\n

Such incidents do not only scar women for a lifetime but shatter their confidence as well. Therefore all those who question the need for Aurat March really need to reflect on the realities of this brutal society. Perhaps we all need to ask ourselves whether or not we’re playing a part in building a safe space for women in Pakistan?<\/p>\n

Although we do not know the other side of the story as there has been no official statement by Irfan Ahson. Several female influencers have shown support to Izzah and lauded her for being brave enough to share such an ugly incident.<\/p>\n
