After running out of rations these men had been consuming fuel from the ship&#8217;s engine until rations arrived.<\/p>\n<p>Since the sailors cannot leave the wrecked boat due to legal issues, the Pakistani government delivered relief supplies to these men at sea.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Last night Fed Minister Maritime Affairs <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AliHZaidiPTI?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@AliHZaidiPTI<\/a> authorized PNSC oil tanker to slightly divert 50 NMs from its course to deliver 30 days ration, water &amp; medical supplies to the crew on stranded tug boat Mehr in Saudi territorial waters off the coast of Jeddah.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PnscOffical?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@PnscOffical<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Govt of Pakistan (@MaritimeGovPK) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MaritimeGovPK\/status\/1374250262160883714?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 23, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>These six Pakistani sailors are stranded in the Red Sea but cannot leave the ship as they are owed eight months\u2019 salary. The ship that brought them supplies could have rescued the sailors. However, they wanted the wrecked ship to be taken with them to the shores of Jeddah.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThese are poor and hardworking people. If the ship is not delivered to shore, their salaries may be cut and more problems may arise for them, &#8230; If they leave the ship and come ashore and the ship is damaged, they could potentially be held liable, which could lead to legal issues for them. It\u2019s the sailors\u2019 responsibility to get the ship to safety.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The sailors in view of their pending 8 months wages preferred to stay on tug. He informed him that another ship would be sent to help them soon.<\/p>\n<h3>Sailor&#8217;s Health<\/h3>\n<p>Speaking to the BBC Urdu via satellite phone, the ship\u2019s vice-captain said they had been drinking seawater before rations arrived. He said they had to drink seawater, and were forced to &#8216;<em>boil rice in water mixed with diesel and petrol<\/em>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cOur situation is so bad that when our throat is completely dry, then diesel and petrol are mixed in the engines to draw water or take water from the sea. We boil it and then filter it with a cloth and drink it so that the throat becomes wet. &#8230; When we are hungry, we boil rice with the same water. The ship is now at the mercy of the sea.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWherever the waves of the sea take the ship, the ship turns in that direction. We are afraid that the waves will turn it upside down,\u201d he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He informed that first one of the ship\u2019s engines broke down, then another. Followed by the ship\u2019s steering hydraulic system.<\/p>\n<p>The ship was being taken from Oman to Egypt.
