Pakistani-Canadian filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is not happy with PM Imran Khan’s recent statements that Pakistani society that if compared, the West gives more respect to women.<\/p>\n
The last few weeks have been very disturbing for the public, especially women as we saw and heard about multiple murder cases. What happened with Noor, Saima or Qurut-ul-Ain was beyond cruelty and it shook the nation to its core.<\/p>\n
In his recent interview with American journalist Judy Woodruff, PM Khan shed light on the rise in crimes against women. However, he believes that these crimes are minuscule in Pakistan in comparison to other countries.<\/p>\n
“Having traveled across the world, I find that in Muslim countries, women are treated with far more respect and dignity. Even the rape cases in Pakistan, as compared to Western countries are minuscule. Yes, we have our issues, we have cultural problems, and every nation has that. But that can be resolved with cultural evolution and education. But as far as a woman\u2019s dignity goes, I can say that this [Pakistani] society gives more respect and dignity to women.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
