It&#8217;s clear that cultural appropriation was what made the band apprehensive.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThere\u2019s a fun fact about and story behind Hai Koi Hum Jaisa. It was made according to a brief by Pepsi back in 2003. The brief for the song, which was being recorded for the World Cup taking place in South Africa, was to include an African chant, &#8230;. All the tracks were done, the music had been laid down. Faisal was about to go into the vocal booth, and I was thinking, \u2018What are we doing? Are we doing the right thing or not? Should we do this or not?\u2019 So, I said to him, \u2018I don\u2019t think we should do this song. This isn\u2019t our feel.\u2019 Faisal agreed with me. He said, \u2018Okay. If both of us feel this way, we shouldn\u2019t do the song.\u2019\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\t<blockquote  \r\n\t\tclass=\"instagram-media\" \r\n\t\tdata-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/tv\/CZKTyTRpsd5\/\" \r\n\t\tdata-instgrm-version=\"14\" \r\n\t\tstyle=\"max-width:540px; min-width:300px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\">\r\n\t<\/blockquote>\r\n\t<script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script>\r\n\r\n\t\n<p>Additionally, <em><strong>Strings<\/strong> <\/em>just couldn&#8217;t identify with the vibe of the song.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhen we were told to make this song, [Strings] had released the album Duur, which included songs like Anjane, Kuch Tou Ho Gaya, and Jaane Do, and we weren\u2019t sure whether we should do Hai Koi Hum Jaisa. Instead, the band suggested another Pepsi brand ambassador Haroon take over.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe called the marketing director of Pepsi at the time and told him that we had decided not to do the song. Haroon was also a brand ambassador for Pepsi back then, so we requested him to get Haroon to do it. We told him we\u2019d call Haroon in and he could do the vocals and finish the track.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Instead, his response ensured <em><strong>Strings<\/strong> <\/em>did end up doing the song, as he said;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Please, do the vocals.
