It’s 2022 but many people still believe in superstitious rituals and practice them as well. Some pregnant women hope to avoid giving birth during an eclipse due to bad omen. Similarly, a lot of people believe that burying children in the sand during an eclipse will cure them of their disabilities or prevent them from several ailments.<\/p>\n

During yesterday’s solar eclipse, some people in Karachi covered their children in sand up to their chins in the belief that doing so during an eclipse would cure them.<\/p>\n

A few years ago, people in India also buried children up to their necks during a week’s solar eclipse as a supposed remedy for their handicaps but the police halted the practice and launched an awareness campaign. They also stated that stronger charges would be pressed against the offenders next time.<\/p>\n

An astrologer R.K. Sharma in India explained that<\/p>\n

A solar eclipse weakens the sun god temporarily because of an encounter with dragon Rahu and leaves some cascading results everywhere.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He added ,<\/p>\n

Bathing in holy rivers, ponds and covering sand over body during this time thus helps protect health and develop positivism and greater will power.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This pretty much explains the Hindu origins of certain Pakistani superstitious practices.<\/p>\n
