Laali<\/em> appears to be an ode to the warrior princess of the Sub-continent but the most unmistakable detail is the stand-out accessory that we haven’t seen in Pakistan \u2014 a sword. Gone are the days when a woman had to have ‘her honor’ passed from her father or brothers to her husband to ‘protect’. A woman by herself is enough to preserve and defend her honor.<\/p>\n

Since astrology is so intricately linked to Hinduism, red also symbolizes Mars \u2014 the planet that supposedly oversees marriage. However, Muslim brides are believed to have carried the Mughal bridal tradition to modern-day Pakistan where the trend persists in 2022 as well.

Pakistani designers have taken to designing more Indian-style lehngas<\/em> now, borrowing the same silhouette and color palettes that are more infused with Mughal essence and jewelry, and Indian Punjabi mermaid skirts and midriff-baring cholis.<\/em><\/p>\n
