The title of Asim Abbasi’s much-awaited web series is finally released! Barzakh (meaning barrier), produced by Shailja Kejriwal and Waqas Hassan for Zindagi, is the Indian subcontinent-focused programming block on streamer ZEE5 Global.<\/p>\n

It has already created high anticipation among viewers. The web series is also set for its debut on an international platform in France at the illustrious Series Mania festival in March 2023. It is the only selection from South Asia at the festival scheduled to be held in Lille.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The series will debut in the showcase\u2019s International Panorama, a 12-title competitive section where it will be eligible for the best series, director, actress, actor, student jury, and audience awards.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Barzakh<\/em><\/strong> reunites Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed once again in lead roles after 10 years. The duo was last seen in the drama serial Zindagi Gulzar Hai<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The series is a family drama revolving around an elderly man\u2019s quest for love. It explores intergenerational trauma between fathers and sons. The narrative is framed within a fantastical world of supernatural beings and otherworldly events that reveal the abysses between life, death, and rebirth.<\/p>\n

The director Asim Abbasi told Variety in an interview,<\/p>\n

What does it mean to be human? What does it mean to have a soul, and does it survive us? How does one find hope and joy in a perpetual state of limbo? These are the central concerns of \u2018Barzakh\u2019.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Cake<\/em><\/strong> director said it’s an extremely personal project for him. Describing how this story came into being he said, “In the aftermath of my father\u2019s passing, and witnessing my son grow into a young boy, I found myself consumed with nostalgia, and memories of times gone and loves lost. And I began to think about my fears \u2013 the end of consciousness, the end of imagination, the end of love. And from these fears, grew a story where love was indeed eternal. Where it survived us \u2013 making it the ultimate human legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, “This series was conceptualized during the pandemic when all pre-defined notions of love, life, death, and beyond were going through a seismic shift. Online work, mourning, and celebrations had led to a sort of haze and confusion about what was real.”<\/p>\n

Fawad Khan is playing the role of a single parent, charming but ridden with guilt for what he has lost. Sanam Saeed plays the female lead who bears otherworldly secrets and takes it upon herself to heal and bring everyone together. The series was shot on location in Karachi and the picturesque Hunza valley.<\/p>\n
