Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie announced yesterday that they were separating in an unexpected announcement that appeared to mark the end of the couple’s 18-year high-profile marriage.<\/p>\n

After many meaningful and difficult conversations, we have made the decision to separate.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

His now ex-wife, Sophie Gr\u00e9goire Trudeau<\/span>\u00a0posted a similar message on her account.<\/p>\n

The couple has three children \u2014 15-year-old Xavier,14-year-old Ella-Grace, and 9-year-old Hadrien. They requested the public to respect their privacy for the well-being of their children.<\/p>\n\t\t

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Trudeaus have signed a legal separation agreement. The statement also reads,<\/p>\n

They remain a close family. Both parents will be a constant presence in their children’s lives and Canadians can expect to often see the family together.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It was also conveyed that the family plans to spend an upcoming vacation together, commencing next week.<\/p>\n

Trudeau will be the first prime minister to go through a separation while in still office since his father and mother split in 1977.<\/p>\n
