Sukoon <\/em>by Lahore songwriter-singer Hassan & Roshaan with Coke Studio-<\/em><\/strong>famed Shae Gill is a song about finding peace in solitude. It already crossed 11 million streams on Spotify. However, the ‘moral brigade’ did not see it that way and misinterpreted the music video as ‘highly inappropriate’.Some viewers perceived it to have lesbian undertones, while the entire music video appeared unusual.<\/p>\n

The music video was directed by Saad Yratta, and produced by Nael Hafeez and Suman Ayoub Yratta. The director imagined the song; as a song of peace, solitude, and longing. The peaceful melancholic nature of the track evokes a sense of loneliness and prettiness that is symbolized through a goldfish, portrayed by model Altish Yousaf.<\/p>\n

And now after much speculation, the singer duo also spoke up about the original concept behind the music video which was perceived by the audience as rather controversial.<\/p>\n

Hassan declared unprovoked,<\/p>\n

We’d like to clarify that the original concept of Sukoon’s Music Video did not contain any LGBT+ nuances. But people are free to interpret it any way they like it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Whereas Roshaan chimed,<\/p>\n

The idea was that the mermaid was a character apart from us. She emulates the feelings of the song where life is wonderful but it can also be very lonely. And we had to show her interact with one of us. When we were doing that, it appeared romantic. So, we decided for her to interact with Shae. It was also funny when people doubled down on that perspective and thought both the girls were romantically involved.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The duo also revealed that renowned Indian label T-Series offered to buy Sukoon off them. “T-Series was paying us a lot of money for Sukoon. At first we agreed but then they said they wanted to replace our vocals just like they removed Ali Sethi from their rendition of Pasoori. That’s where we drew the line. Now it’ll happen when Pak-India relations improve.”<\/p>\n
