The Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke recently celebrated the 15th anniversary of the supernatural teen romance with a \u201cwatchalong\u201d of the 2008 flick on Josh Horowitz\u2019s Happy Sad Confused podcast, during which she approved of the host’s suggestions for an updated Bella and Edward.<\/p>\n

Horowitz asked Hardwicke who she believes should portray the couple if the Twilight reboot would be made which was originally depicted by Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. He asked,<\/p>\n

Is Jacob Elordi Edward Cullen today? Is Jenna Ortega\u2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Hardwicke agreed when the host suggested Elordi and Ortega, who are two of the hottest young stars in Hollywood right now.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s amazing. He probably would be Edward today,\u201d Hardwicke said of Elordi, who is currently enjoying a double header of success with starring roles in Sofia Coppola\u2019s \u201cPriscilla\u201d and Emerald Fennell\u2019s \u201cSaltburn.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for who should play Bella, Hardwicke said it would have to be Ortega, who has made a name for herself both as a \u201cScream\u201d queen and as the star of Netflix\u2019s \u201cWednesday\u201d \u2014 though Ortega just announced that she won\u2019t be appearing in \u201cScream 7\u201d due to scheduling conflicts.<\/p>\n\t\t

The 2008 film\u2019s director also discussed the future of the franchise \u2014 which is based on Stephenie Meyer\u2019s fantasy novels of the same name \u2014 given the news that a Twilight series is reportedly in the works at Lionsgate TV, Variety reported in April.<\/p>\n\n
