House of the Dragon actress Milly Alcock has landed the coveted role of Supergirl in James Gunn and Peter Safran\u2019s new DC Universe.<\/p>\n

The Australia-born Alcock played the young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of HBO\u2019s Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon.<\/p>\n

She beat out CODA actress Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly, the latter who voiced Supergirl in such DC animated movies as Legion of Superheroes and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One.<\/p>\n

The upcoming feature film \u201cSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,\u201d is based on the DC comics run of the same name by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.<\/p>\n

That project, however, does not yet have a director, and Ana Nogueira (\u201cThe Vampire Diaries\u201d) was just hired to write the screenplay in November. Gunn, who confirmed Alcock\u2019s casting on Instagram, has not stated when Alcock will make her superhero debut.<\/p>\n\t\t

But the fact that the news that Alcock landed the role broke months before Gunn began shooting \u201cSuperman: Legacy\u201d suggests that Supergirl may first show up alongside her Kryptonian cousin before setting off on her own story.<\/p>\n

In the 2022 comic book run of \u201cWoman of Tomorrow,\u201d rather than escape the planet of Krypton as an infant before it explodes (like her cousin Kal-El), Kara grows up witnessing her home planet\u2019s destruction until she\u2019s 14 when she arrives on Earth. That makes the character \u201cmuch more hardcore,\u201d Gunn explained in 2023 when presenting the first 10 titles in the new DCU slate. \u201cShe\u2019s not exactly the Supergirl we\u2019re used to seeing.\u201d<\/p>\n
