The Indian music labels are now seeking to challenge OpenAI in a copyright lawsuit in New Delhi. Labels like T-Series and Sony\u00a0are expressing their deep-seated concerns about the \u201cunauthorized use of sound recordings\u201d in training AI models.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re worried that OpenAI might be using their music without permission, which is rich coming from an industry that has a long history of remixing and rehashing tunes from across the border without so much as a \u201cthank you\u201d note.<\/p>\n

The Indian Music Industry (IMI) group, along with T-Series and Saregama, has filed a request to join a lawsuit initiated by Indian news agency ANI, which accuses OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT of using its content without permission.<\/p>\n\t\t

In their legal filing, which is not public but has been reviewed by Reuters, the music labels claim that the outcome of this lawsuit is \u201ccrucial for the entire music industry in India, and even worldwide.\u201d<\/p>\n

The next hearing is set for February 21. Meanwhile, the music labels are rallying support from book publishers and media groups, some of whom are backed by billionaires like Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani.
