After nearly three decades at the helm of one of the most iconic fashion houses in the world, Donatella Versace is stepping down as the creative director of Versace<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 69-year-old designer, who took over the brand after the tragic death of her brother Gianni Versace in 1997, will now transition into the role of chief brand ambassador.<\/p>\n\t\t

\u201cIt has been the greatest honor of my life to carry on my brother Gianni\u2019s legacy. He was the true genius, but I hope I have some of his spirit and tenacity,\u201d<\/p>\n

Donatella said in a heartfelt statement. She also expressed excitement about her successor, Dario Vitale, saying, \u201cI am thrilled that Dario Vitale will be joining us, and excited to see Versace through new eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dario Vitale, formerly the Design and Image Director at Miu Miu, will take over as Chief Creative Officer on April 1. Known for his work at Miu Miu, an offshoot of Prada, Vitale brings a more refined and understated aesthetic to the table\u2014quite the contrast to Versace\u2019s bold, sexy, and provocative style.<\/p>\n

The timing of Donatella\u2019s departure has fueled speculation about a potential sale of Versace to Prada. Reports suggest that Prada is close to finalizing a deal to acquire Versace from Capri Holdings for nearly 1.5 billion euros ($1.6 billion).<\/p>\n\t\t
