Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif<\/a> has taken a significant step to revive the province\u2019s struggling film industry by forming an eight-member committee tasked with helping the government finance producers for the production of quality films.<\/p>\n

Alongside this, CM Maryam Nawaz has approved proposals for the construction of Punjab\u2019s first-ever film city, including a state-of-the-art studio and a post-production lab.<\/p>\n

The committee, which includes senior government officials and is convened by Provincial Senior Minister Mariyyum Aurangzeb, will also oversee the development of a public sector film school aimed at producing skilled graduates in film and media.<\/p>\n

This initiative is part of a broader effort to rejuvenate cultural activities in Punjab, following the recent revival of traditional events such as Mela Chiraghan and a Punjabi culture festival at the Alhamra Arts Council.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson from the Information and Culture Department explained that the local film industry has faced numerous challenges over the years, leading to its decline. The newly formed committee will draft policies to provide financial assistance to local producers, aiming to foster a supportive environment for film production.<\/p>\n

Land for the film city has been allocated within the Nawaz Sharif Information Technology City, with work underway to finalize the design and technical specifications of the facility. The Punjab cabinet has approved the committee\u2019s formation, and funds are expected to be allocated in the upcoming annual budget to support the industry\u2019s growth.<\/p>\n

Ejaz Kamran, former chairman of the Pakistan Film Distributors Association, welcomed the decision, noting that a lack of government support has been a major reason producers have avoided film projects in Punjab.
