While we have students in the US hosting the world’s first “sperm race”<\/a> and some are eating incredibly expensive artworks<\/a>, one student has become a hero for his selfless actions. An 18-year-old student from eastern China has become a viral hero after missing a crucial exam to save his classmate\u2019s life, a decision he says he does not regret.<\/p>\n

On May 10, Jiang Zhaopeng, a dental prosthetics student at Shandong City Service Technician College, was on his way to the national vocational entrance exam with a classmate when the classmate suffered a heart attack in their ride-hailing car. Acting quickly, Jiang performed CPR and instructed the driver, Wang Tao, to head straight to the nearest hospital. With the help of traffic police, Wang ran six red lights and reached the hospital in just seven minutes.<\/p>\n\t\t

Doctors were able to revive Jiang\u2019s classmate after nearly 30 minutes without a heartbeat. Once his classmate was stable, Jiang reported the incident to his school and rushed to the exam venue, but he missed the Chinese language section of the test.<\/p>\n\n

On May 14, the local government honored both Jiang and the driver, Wang Tao, with a Courageous Act Award and a cash prize of 10,000 yuan (US$1,400). As of now, Jiang\u2019s classmate remains in hospital.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
