Their first connection quickly blossomed into a deep relationship built on shared values, creativity, and activism. After dating for a few years, they tied the knot in February this year at the New York City Clerk\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

In an April post titled \u201cArt in Times of Crisis,\u201d she wrote, \u201cArt is inherently political\u2014in how it\u2019s made, funded, and shared.\u201d Her work often explores themes of identity, displacement, and resistance, reflecting her Syrian-American background.<\/p>\n She has also expressed solidarity with Palestinians, notably through a powerful animation showing a child holding an empty pot with the words \u201cNot a hunger crisis\u201d and \u201cIt is deliberate starvation.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite being the city\u2019s new First Lady, Rama has largely maintained a low profile. She rarely appears in campaign events or public interviews, preferring to let her work speak for itself. However, this discretion drew criticism from some political commentators online, who accused Mamdani of \u201chiding\u201d his wife during the campaign.<\/p>\n Mamdani responded strongly, posting black-and-white photos from their wedding on Instagram. \u201cThree months ago, I married the love of my life, Rama, at the City Clerk\u2019s office,\u201d he wrote. \u201cNow, right-wing trolls are trying to make this race\u2014which should be about you\u2014about her. Rama isn\u2019t just my wife; she\u2019s an incredible artist who deserves to be known on her own terms. You can critique my views, but not my family.\u201d<\/p>\n While she keeps a distance from the political limelight, Rama\u2019s quiet support for her husband is evident.
