ISLAMABAD: In a major legal victory, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has emerged victorious over the MQM-London in a case involving the ownership of seven London properties.<\/p>\n
The verdict was issued by Insolvency and Companies Judge Clive Jones, sitting as a high court judge in the High Court of Justice Business and Property Court of England and Wales.<\/p>\n
The court ruled that MQM-P was the true MQM and that its members, represented by Information Technology Minister Aminul Haque, were the rightful beneficiaries of the trusts and therefore the properties.<\/p>\n
As per the details, the case centered around the ownership of several north London properties and saw MQM supremo Altaf Hussain pitted against ex-loyalists who had now joined MQM-P.<\/p>\n
The trial, which started in November 2022, concluded at the end of January and the court found that it was the April 2016 constitution, and not the 2015 version, that was adopted by MQM-P.<\/p>\n
MQM-P leaders, including party convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, held a press conference in Karachi to celebrate the verdict.<\/p>\n
Siddiqui announced that a portion of the London properties would be given to the family of slain MQM leader Dr. Imran Farooq.<\/p>\n
It is worth noting that the MQM split into two factions, MQM-London and MQM-Pakistan, in August 2016 after a speech made by Hussain triggered violence in Karachi.<\/p>\n
