ISLAMABAD: The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has proposed new regulatory reforms to the investment mechanism of Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs).<\/p>\n

As per a recently-published concept paper \u2018Review of Landscape and Revamping Framework\u2019, the commission proposed new regulations to manage the new REIT companies, their shares and asset management.<\/div>\n

In addition to this, the new regulations would be responsible for:<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
    \n
  • Bringing in new real estate investment products<\/li>\n
  • Facilitating the launch of various schemes by real estate investment trust management companies<\/li>\n
  • Implementing a reporting-based system<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

    On the comprehensive concept paper for the new regulatory framework, which is available on the commission’s official website, SECP has requested feedback.<\/p>\n

    An overview of the real estate investment trust industry and potential regulatory changes were also provided in the paper.<\/p>\n

    It should be noted that the REIT industry is relatively undeveloped in Pakistan. However, in Pakistan over the past two years, ten new REIT schemes have been developed.<\/p>\n
