T20 World Cup Points Table
Sixteen Teams will battle it out in UAE and Oman for the 2021 T20 World Cup. The International Cricket Council (ICC) decided to revamp the format of this edition of the T20 World Cup, with eight teams playing qualifiers in round one of the competition to join the top eight teams in the Super 12s stage of the tournament.
The aim of the teams in the first round is to finish within top 2 positions in the T20 World Cup points table in their particular groups in order to qualify for the next round. Eight teams include Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Ireland and Namibia in Group A and Bangladesh, Oman, Papua New Guinea and Scotland in Group B.
The four qualified teams will move onto the next round where they will join the top eight T20 playing nations. Australia, England, South Africa and West Indies will be joined by winners of Group A and runners-up of Group B in Group 1 of the Super 12s, while Group B winners and Group A runners-up will join Pakistan, India, New Zealand and Afghanistan in Group 2 of the Super 12 rounds.
The teams that finish in the first two spots in the T20 World Cup points table in the Super 12 will advance to the semi-finals of the mega event. The winners of Group 1 will face the runners-up of Group 2, while the winners of Group 2 will face the runners-up of Group 1 in the semi-final stage. The winner of each encounter will move onto the final of the tournament set to be played on 14 November at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Points Criteria For Group Matches:
The group stages (round one and super 12s) will be held in accordance with the rules and regulations of the tournament as per the International Cricket Council rule book.
The points system implemented in the group matches of the T20 World Cup is the same as the points system in any ICC authorized event. The winner of the match will be awarded two points. If the match ends in a no result then both the teams will be awarded one point, while there are zero points for a loss. In case the match ends in a tie, the winner of the encounter will be determined via a super over.
In a super over, both teams will play one over and the team with the highest runs in the over will be declared the winner and will be awarded two points. In case the super over ends in a tie then continuous super overs will be played until there is a result.
The ranking of the teams in the group stages of the T20 World Cup will be determined according to the following criteria:
- The team with the highest points at the end of the group stage will finish in the first position.
- If teams have an equal number of points, then the team with a higher net run rate will finish higher.
- If both the points and the net run rate are equal, the team with the highest number of wins in the group stage will finish higher.
- If the above criteria are equal as well, then the team with fewer losses will finish higher in the table.
- If all the criteria remain equal, then the result of the head-to-head between the two teams will determine the league position.
All the teams within a group will face each other once and the top two teams according to the T20 World Cup points table criteria at the end of round will move onto the next stage of the tournament.
