Only 15-20% of ICT Graduates Are Employed: Chairman P@SHA

Recently, an event was held at the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club to emphasis the need for incorporating Information Technology for better decision making, decisions that could otherwise require significant effort and analysis to arrive at. The event was attended and represented by several high profile IT professionals all across Pakistan.

The chairman of P@SHA (Pakistan Association of Software Houses) Naseer A Akhtar addressed the audience and discussed the importance of Big Data and how companies can create better decisions by taking up a culture of Big Data and Analytics.

He was speaking as a keynote speaker at the event, organized by the Marketing Association of Pakistan, about Technology: A Tool to Convert Potential into Opportunity” in Lahore.

Mr Naseer, who is also the CEO of INFOTECH Group, discussed that the data produced and recorded in the past two years is more than the data produced throughout the past. Out of all the data produced, only 0.5% data is being analyzed and used.

Organizations Investing In Big Data

According to him, 73% of the organizations have already invested or planned to invest in predictive systems this year, to capture and analyze data for improved decision making.

It is no more a matter of choice by a business but a necessity to incorporate data and analytics into their business processes if they want to survive in the market.

Linkages Between Industry And Academia

He also focused on the need to build and improve linkages between the industry and academia in order to enhance ICT capacity in the country. He also stressed the need to update the curriculum so that it is in line with the required industry standards.

The current curriculum in the universities is not current and outdated when it comes to market needs. This is one of the main reasons behind why only 15-20% of the ICT graduates get employed, which is not a sustainable state of affairs.

He also stressed on the requirement for government to support through diplomatic and commercial channels to improve the ICT capacity and enhance the IT exports.
