PTA to Take Legal Action Against Reuters For Misreporting on 3G / 4G Auction

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has decided to take on Reuters with legal action for presenting falsified facts regarding the on-going process of 3G and 4G spectrum, we have confirmed with sources.

Reuters had published a story on April 15th, 2014 – exactly the next day after operators submitted sealed bids – claiming that auction drew disappointing bids.

A spokesperson of PTA confirmed ProPakistani that authority is preparing a case against Reuters.

Other than authority, few officials of PTA are also considering to sue Reuters on individual basis for causing them mental torture and distress.

PTA said that they had approached Reuters with all the facts but misleading story is still present on their website and countless other websites of newspapers that employ the news-agency for news reports.

PTA said that story was misleading and that it tried to jeopardize the auction process. PTA believes that such fabricated news reports brought negative impact and bad press for Pakistan and its people who are desperately waiting for new technology.

PTA is probably waiting for the auction to happen before they go ahead with the legal procedure against Reuters, just because there are various facts which can’t be made public before auction of spectrum.
