PTA’s Show Cause Notice to Zong (Copy)

We recently reported about Pakistan Telecommunication Authority issuing a show cause notice to Zong. Despite all the efforts, we were denied an official response from involved parties.

However, now we have the copy of the notice with us according to which Zong was alleged to have illegally accepted 2.2 million international calls accounting for 11 million minutes through IPs that were originally allocated to them for provision of GPRS/EDGE services.

Notice said that authority had identified these international incoming calls through Grey Trafficking Monitoring System that was installed under ICH directive with an investment of 30 million US dollars.

Notice said that, if found guilty, regulator could impose a fine of Rs, 350 million on Zong.

PTA told ProPakistani that Zong has clarified its viewpoint to authority.

Since the matter is in court, we are bound to hold our opinion but we can at least tell you that this show cause notice is somehow related to issuance of LDI license to Zong, ICH and an individual.
