ZTE Grand S3 is the World’s First Phone with Eyeprint ID

If you thought that having a fingerprint scanner on your phone was cool, then this new phone from ZTE will blow your mind. The new Grand S3 is the world’s first phone with Eyeprint ID biometric system, which scans your eye for verification.

The system is more reliable since it actually scans both your eyes. It was developed by EyeVerify and can be used for a number of processes including online payments, unlocking and authorization. It uses the front 8 megapixel camera for the process.

Hardware:

On the specs side, the phone comes with a 5.5″ display with 1080p resolution, running customized Android 4.4 KitKat. Underneath, you get a 2.5 Ghz Snapdragon 801 processor with Krait 400 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU. There’s 3 GB memory and 16 GB expandable storage onboard.

Camera:

The back boasts a 16 megapixel camera with dual-LED Flash, coupled with an 8 megapixel camera at the front which is used for verification purposes. Since this one doesn’t come with an LED Flash, there can a bit of reliability worries though we can’t say anything right now.

Connectivity, Battery:

For LTE, you get options such as the new Wi-Fi ac, LTE and GPS. Lastly, you have Dolby Sound and a 3,100 mAh battery.

Pricing:

The phone will be available for 430 Euros which is not cheap but on par with what you’d expect. Thankfully, the Grand S3 won’t be the end of the chain, since ZTE has plans to introduce this technology in other phones as well. Whether it is implemented as well as it sounds remains to be seen.
