Nikon has announced a new alluring addition in its list of mirrorless cameras with the new 1 J5. The camera comes with a 1″ 20.8 megapixel BSI CMOS sensor with the new Expeed 5A image processor and 171 contrast-detect and 105 phase-detect points.
For video you get 4K capability at 15 fps, which is not really that usable, but you also have the 1080p option at 60fps and 720p slo-mo at 120 fps. The burst mode reaches 20 fps with continuous autofocus and a mammoth 60fps without it. ISO levels are between 160 and 12,800.
Nikon also claims that the 1 J5 has the shortest shutter lag in its class. The top of the camera features a programmable function, a PSAM dial and a settings dial among other controls. A pop-up LED Flash sits next to those.
Nikon has added a few special modes in the pack. A special “Sports Mode” shoots exactly where it is supposed to and automatically focuses on things like photo finishes in races while a Time-Lapse movie mode is included as well.
In line with current trends, the display is a rotatable 3″ 1037 dot touchscreen panel. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi and NFC. It will be available in three colour options.
To keep the package attractive, Nikon is pricing it competitively at $499.95 with a 1 NIKKOR 10-30mm f/3.5/5.6 PD-Zoom lens, $749.95 with that and a 1 NIKKOR VR 30-110 f/3.8-5.6 PD-Zoom lens or finally, $1049.95 with a NIKKOR 10-100 mm f/4-5.6 lens.
