Twitter has unveiled the top events of the year 2015, with a wide range of events and issues dominating the discussion on the social media network.
Unsurprisingly, the most popular topic in discussion was the attack on Paris which led to the #PrayForParis hashtag.
This was followed by #BlackLivesMatter which was in protest of police violence against African-Americans in the U.S.
#MarriageEquality, #RefugeesWelcome, #IStandWithAhmed, #FIFAWWC and #PlutoFlyby came next.
The biggest tweet of the year belonged to the UK band One Direction’s member Harry Styles, following the departure of Zayn Malik from the band. The tweet from Zayn Malik himself rounded up as the second-most popular.
The elections during the year, in countries such as Argentina, Singapore, India, Canada and the U.K. were among the hottest events of year, judging by the volume of the tweets these events garnered.
In the world of technology, the iPad and the iPhone, followed by Android, SoundCloud and Periscope earned the most attention.
