Pakistan Raises Cross-Border Frequency Spillover Issue with ITU

While talking to delegation of International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Minister of State for Information Technology highlighted the need for a concerted effort lead by ITU, at a regional level to mitigate the cross-border frequency spillovers in neighboring countries.

These frequency spillovers are not only causing interference with the telecommunication networks, but are also providing coverage in areas — up to 20KMs — along the border in neighboring countries.

The Minister further stated that Pakistan may take the initiative at the regional level through the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) to build a regional consensus on the matter before putting up for discussion at a global for a like ITU.

It must be noted that Pakistan had raised the issue of cellular signal spillover with Afghanistan but no interest was shown by Afgh

ITU Field Mission is visiting Pakistan for the stakeholders’ consultation for the preparation of a Spectrum Management Plan for Pakistan.

Pakistan is one of the 6 countries out of 25 countries selected by ITU for this project. Under this project, ITU is providing technical expertise for the formulation of Spectrum Management Plan for Pakistan.

Senior officials of Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunication and Frequency Allocation Board (FAB) were also present during the meeting.
