Everyone remotely in the know about tech news has heard of the Note 7 battery exploding problem.
After initiating a Note 7 recall program, it seems that Samsung’s nightmare still isn’t over.
Samsung recalled a lot of Galaxy Note 7 devices on the grounds of them being too dangerous. Apparently the batteries in those phones were at risk of “exploding”.
The reports of exploding Note 7 phones gained a lot of media attention and Samsung recalled millions of Galaxy Note 7 phones for replacement.
Early reports of the customers, who have had their phones replaced, indicate that the Note 7 is still facing battery issues. The issues are being specified as overheating and faster battery drain.
These issues came up in South Korea where the customers got their phones recalled last week. YTN news network reports that the customers are facing overheating and battery drain issues. They said that even when the phone was plugged in, it loses power fast.
As mentioned on ZDNet, Choi a Note 7 owner says that even though the phone was charging and showing the lightning symbol on the battery, the phone kept losing 1 percent of charge every second.
YTN further investigated this problem and discovered that a device with 75 percent of charge dropped to 49 percent after about 40 minutes, despite being plugged in.
However no exploding phones were reported as of yet. The battery issues mentioned are limited to South Korea only, for now.
Samsung started exchanging phones in the US recently with 500,000 units exchanged thus far. Although there is no guarantee, the battery drain/overheating issues could surface in the US as well. Any other person receiving a recalled Galaxy Note 7 could also face this problem.
