Pakistan Needs About 1.7 Million Educational Centers to Reach 90 % Literacy rate

According to data collected by UNESCO and National Commission for Human Development (NCHD), Pakistan needs to set up about 1,564,000 Adult Literacy Centers and 211,375 Non-Formal Centers.

These stats were given to implement the National Plan of Action for Literacy (2018 – 2025). The plan’s targets have to be achieved by 2025.

Below is a list of the number of literacy centers that need to be established each year:

Between 2018 – 2025, 625,000 Basic Literacy Centers, 156,400 private sector centers, 312,800 Functional literacy cum-skill based learning centers, 156,400 Each One Teach One Program, 156, 400 Community Learning Centers plus three level literacy centers and 156,400 Literacy Centers by Deeni Madaris need to be established.

The required Non-Formal Centers for the given period are listed below:

  • 19,750 (2018)
  • 30,188 (2019)
  • 30,938 (2020)
  • 31,500 (2021)
  • 32,063 (2022)
  • 32, 813 (2023)
  • 34,125 (2024)

Country Director UNESCO in Pakistan, Vibeke Jensen, says that Pakistan is ambitious in attaining 90 percent literacy target under its vision 2025.
