Dewan Motors and Dewan Dachan Motors will be marked as a Brownfield site by the Ministry of Industries and Production.
Reportedly, the minister for Industries and Production Ghulam Murtaza Khan Jatoi’s special intervention and the Auto Industry’s concordant decision lead to this settlement.
The decision was concluded by a statement,
Keeping in view the spirit of the existing policy for revival of closed down units, the AIDC unanimously supported the case of M/s Dewan Farooq Motors for appropriate changes in the ADP 2016-21 for availing benefits under the Brownfield category.
A Brownfield status is usually given to a building or a production facility which is already constructed but (sometimes) out of order. The premises are simply revived to suit the needs of the buyer or in respect to the business’s operations which will take place at the site. This saves cost and time as the buyers can simply revive the site to function according to their requirements.
This new status change does indicate that Dewan Motors might be planning to start assembling vehicles in Pakistan. This also hints the introduction of SsangYong vehicles to the Pakistani market in their local variants as Dewan Motors signed an agreement with the Korean company back in 2016.
Along with being a BMW importer in Pakistan, they manufactured their first car back in the 2000s after partnering with Hyundai and Kia. The Hyundai Santro and Hyundai Shehzore are Dewan Motor’s most popular locally assembled vehicles.
