Dell Revamps XPS 13’s Design, Brings a Unique Feature to the Mix

This year, Dell has finally updated the design of its XPS 13 ultrabook — even if only by a little.

The XPS 13 has maintained its look and style for three consecutive years, with no changes at all.

Now, Dell has decided upon refreshing its design to a more streamlined version of the original build, with updated ports and new color options – particularly gold and white.

The new laptop will also be resistant to stains to prevent its white surface from getting dirty.

What’s New?

The updated version comes with a number of small changes when compared to the older versions. The updates include:

• Reduced thickness:The new model has been reduced in thickness by 0.14 inches with its original thickness of 0.6 inches brought down to 0.46 inches
• Lighter: Weighing 0.2 pounds less than last year’s model.
• Better webcam positioning: It is now positioned right in the middle of the lower bezel rather than the extremely awkward lower left side.
• A cooling system – XPS 2017 featured a fanless design. This time around it gets a cooling system to allow the processor more legroom.
• Three USB-C ports
• New color scheme – white and gold

The Downside

While the updated version promises to make your laptop prettier and lighter to carry, it comes at the expense of a few downsides:

• You will now need adapters – all of the USB 3.0 ports have now been replaced with USB-C ports
• Be ready to be disappointed if you’re a photographer – the laptop now has a MicroSD card reader instead of the previously used SD card reader
• The woven texture of the palm rest is a rather cheap update at the expense of making the fiber material of the laptop more visible.

The material of the laptop is prone to getting dirty; however, Dell assures us that the issue has been taken care of.

It claims that the material can be cleaned very easily if, in case, it gets stained by materials such as a permanent marker or mustard among other staining materials.

However, be sure to wipe your laptop’s white surface within a week.

Configurations

The laptop can be configured with:

• An 8^th generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processor.
• A 1080p or 4K display (with an optional touch configuration)
• RAM capacity ranging from 4 to 16 GB
• Storage ranging from 128 GB to 1TB

The XPS 13 2018 rolls out today, starting at a price of $1,000 — with the developer edition running on Linux available for $50 less.
