Pakistan Railways to Get 20 More Trains in Six Months

Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has announced that his ministry is planning to run as many as 20 new trains in the country within the next six months.

He made these remarks while addressing a press conference at Pakistan Railways (PR) headquarter in Lahore on Monday.

The minister said the decision to add more passenger trains to the fleet was taken due to increased demand.

These trains will include a couple of VVIP passenger trains, a few freight trains, and some economy class passenger trains.

He said the new trains would lessen the burden on the current passenger trains as they will stop at smaller stations too.

The minister added that currently, five locomotives are undergoing repair work in China.

Sheikh Rasheed said the losses of Pakistan Railways have shrunk significantly ever since he took the reins of the loss-making institution. He vowed to take more steps in the same direction to make PR a profitable department.

PR is establishing a railway link from Durgai to Karachi station in addition to the link between Durga-Nowshera, Kohat Railway stations.

Sheikh Rasheed divulged that the department is planning to run a new train for the underprivileged section of the society – which will make stops at smaller stations too.
