Apart from the essential indicators of a country’s prosperity such as access to food and shelter, healthcare, quality education, and employment, intangible factors like political stability, job security, freedom, and environmental quality also determine the trajectory of a country’s development.
Therefore, while a country’s GDP, GNP, and Per Capita Income are important to determine its growth, the quality of life can only be assessed after considering the intangible factors.
Recently, the best countries rankings 2019 have been released. According to the rankings, Canada treats its citizen the best in all phases of life. The second country to follow suit is Sweden and the third country providing the best quality of life to its denizens is Denmark.
It is quite understandable that the Western region would surpass the Eastern in this realm as well. However, some Asian countries waged way better than others. Unfortunately, Pakistan is among the latter, i.e., of bad performers. It ranked 73rd out of 80 countries, moving two slots down than the previous year, as it ranked 71 in 2018.
Here are the top 20 performers on the quality of life rankings.
India took the 34th slot in the rankings, having moved down two places from 32 in last year. Russia came 36th in the rankings while Saudi Arabia was ranked 39, as it jacked up two slots from 41 in 2018.
The rankings have been released by the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, BAV Group, a unit of global marketing communications company VML&R. It is based on a study that assessed over 20,000 global citizens from four regions to examine perceptions of 80 countries on 75 different metrics.
Among others, the study took into account the perceptions regarding affordability, job market situation, economic stability, family friendly, income equality, safety, political stability, well-developed public education system, and well-developed public health system.
