Oppo Launches A9x With Better Cameras Than The A9

Oppo has quietly launched the A9x without much fanfare and it looks a lot like the A9 which was launched earlier.

Overall it’s just a slightly more powerful version of the vanilla A9. The only major difference here is that you get a 48MP primary sensor instead of a 16MP main camera.

Design and Display

The two phones are completely identical when it comes to design. You have your classic Chinese mid-ranger smartphone layout you get these days. Thin bezels around the sides with a tiny tear drop notch at the top and a fingerprint sensor below the primary cameras.

It retains the same 6.5-inch full HD, IPS LCD display with no difference in the pixel density either. You do at least get a black color variant this time around unlike the regular A9.

Internals and Storage

You get a lot of storage with the Oppo A9X. There’s 128GB of internal storage available which can be expanded even further using a microSD card. Alongside storage, you have 6 gigs of RAM and the same octa-core processor Helio P70 chipset.

It comes with Android Pie with Oppo’s custom UI (ColorOS) on top.

Camera

The camera is the biggest highlight of the A9x.

The 16MP primary sensor you had on the A9 has been upgraded to a 48MP shooter. You do get all of the A9’s features including a dual tone LED flash, panorama, HDR and the ability to record full HD videos at 30 FPS. While on the front, it has the same 16MP sensor as the A9.

Battery and Pricing

Both A9 and A9x have the same 4090mAh battery, but the A9x comes with support for Oppo’s VOOC 3.0 fast charging which is missing from the vanilla A9.

The upgrades also warrant a price increase and the Oppo A9x goes for a slightly higher price than the A9 at $289.
