Xiaomi has just announced that it will no longer be developing MIUI betas for older Redmi smartphones.
Phones which turn a year old will be withdrawn from MIUI beta testing and will only receive the public, stable releases of the company’s custom Android skin.
The Chinese phone maker has also decided on suspending MIUI betas for entry-level Redmi smartphones. There was no clarification about which devices will be affected by this suspension, but it is expected that devices such as Redmi 7 and Redmi 7A will be included.
Back in April, Xiaomi announced that its entry-level 2018 smartphones will no longer receive the Android Pie update as there was a lack of beta testers. The latest announcement could be relevant for similar reasons.
The changes to Xiaomi’s MIUI beta policy only applies to Redmi phones in China for now but we’re still yet to learn about updates on global variants of Redmi devices.
Here is a list of devices which are eligible to get the new software update for MIUI 11.
