Shoaib Akhtar Wants Pakistan’s Captaincy to be Shared by Babar Azam & Haris Sohail

Former fast bowler, Shoaib Akhtar, has suggested that the team should go for split captaincy with Babar Azam leading the Test side while Haris Sohail should be made the captain of the limited-overs formats.

Haris Sohail should be made the captain. He should captain the side in ODIs and T20Is.

Talking about Babar, he said that the youngster has been scoring a lot of runs and that the management should test him with the captaincy in the longest format.

The Rawalpindi Express said that Sarfaraz Ahmed should no longer lead the team in any format. If he is to play, he should be fielded as a wicket-keeper batsman without any leadership responsibilities.

He [Sarfaraz] should be used for his keeping and batting skills. No way should he continue as captain of the Pakistan cricket team. He should not be the captain in any format.

While Haris Sohail has little to no experience in leading any side at the domestic or international level, Babar has captained the Under-19 side once and led one of the worst U-19 campaigns in Pakistan cricket’s history. Due to the lack of any potential replacement for Sarfraz Ahmed, pundits have been naming any player they deem reliable enough for Pakistan’s playing XI.

By the looks of it, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) might continue with Sarfaraz-Mickey combination until the next T20 World Cup which is scheduled in Australia in 2020. As a T20I captain, Sarfraz has the best record internationally and until the T20 World Cup, PCB is reluctant to put Sarfraz under any pressure to avoid any negative impact on the side.
