Senior Sri Lankan Cricketers Reportedly Unwilling to Tour Pakistan

Senior Sri Lankan cricketers are reportedly in disagreement with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) over the upcoming tour to Pakistan. According to the reports in local media, ODI captain Dimuth Karunaratane and T20I captain Lasith Malinga are unlikely to tour Pakistan for the limited-overs series.

Sri Lanka is set to tour Pakistan for a three-week-long series which includes three ODIs in Karachi and 3 T20Is in Lahore. The series starts on 27th September with the last match scheduled on 9th October.

Sri Lanka Cricket spokesperson questioned the players’ decision considering the sound security arrangements.

The World XI has gone there, Pakistan Super League has taken place and even our own team went and played there in 2017. We have studied the security arrangements and we have no issues in going on the tour.

It is worth mentioning that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and SLC enjoy cordial relations and the PCB recently sent its Under-19 team to visit Sri Lanka soon after the Easter bombings.

The board representatives are set to meet the players on 9th September to convince them to tour Pakistan.
