Following the issuance of instructions by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on 20 January 2021 for the restoration of the data services of the Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) in District Waziristan, a joint quality of service (QoS) survey was conducted by the PTA along with the CMOs from 25 to 29 January in Wana, Azam Warsak, Kanni Kurram, Makin, Shakai, Srarogha, Tanaie, and Tiarza.

According to the details, Jazz (2G & 3G) and Ufone (2G) services are currently available in these areas.

The results of the survey showed that Jazz’s data services were found to be in compliance with the minimum license threshold, while some of the voice and SMS key performance indicators of both the licensees were found to be below the license standards in some of the surveyed areas. The CMOs have been directed to rectify the identified deficiencies within 15 days.

The survey has also identified the requirement of the expansion of the telecommunication infrastructure in the area.

Accordingly, operators are being told to upgrade their services (2G sites to 3G, and 3G sites to 4G) and to consider adding more sites so that better voice and data services may be extended to the subscribers.

An improvement in internet services is expected within the next four weeks. Furthermore, efforts to resume fixed-line broadband services in the area are underway.

It is also believed that the provision of broadband services will facilitate the local community and students in particular by fulfilling their internet needs.
