Samsung is Making “Armor Frame” for Phones

Samsung has filed a new patent in the US, Europe, and South Korea that shows the company is working on an armor frame for smartphones. The description of the patent does not reveal much and the title “Armor Frame” is the only information to go by for now.

The patent was uncovered by none other than LetsGoDigital.

The rumor mill claims that these armor frames may be made out of carbon or titanium, materials that are lighter but stronger than standard aluminum frames. These are also less likely to lose rigidness over a long period of time.

The news comes just before Samsung’s plans to unveil its new foldables, namely the Galaxy Z fold 3 and the Z Flip 2. These may be the first phones to feature the new armor frame, as these would benefit the most from extra durability and less weight.

However, since patents don’t always make it to final products, we would advise taking this information with a grain of salt for now.

Speaking of the Z Fold 3, the upcoming foldable is expected to feature a tougher display that will allow it to support the S Pen. It is also expected to have better cameras and design than before as well as IP-certification for water resistance.

Stay tuned for updates.
