The federal government has reversed its previous decision to stop issuing Pakistani passports to individuals applying for political asylum overseas.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
The meeting, which addressed the issues faced by overseas Pakistanis, included the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Secretary of Interior, Director General of IMPASS, and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the session, Deputy Prime Minister Dar was briefed by the Secretary of Interior and the Director General of IMPASS on ensuring timely passport issuance for Pakistanis residing abroad.
The meeting decided to revoke the circular issued on June 5, 2024. This circular temporarily stopped the issuance of passports to Pakistani asylum seekers abroad.
The deputy PM was informed by the officials that passports for Pakistanis abroad would be processed within 60 days.
