Residents of the Telephone Industries of Pakistan (TIP) Employees Cooperative Housing Society Phase-II in Lahore are grappling with an ongoing electricity crisis that has persisted for the past six to seven months. Despite their repeated appeals to both the housing society management and the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco), the issue remains unresolved.
The affected residents, who have diligently paid their electricity bills, are expressing frustration over the lack of a permanent solution to the power outage. They explained that the society had previously received electricity through an arrangement with a neighboring housing society. However, this arrangement fell through about six months ago, leading to the disconnection of power supply.
Since the disconnection, residents have been forced to rely on generators, which only provide limited power for a few hours each day. The reliance on generators has not only been inadequate but has also resulted in damage to electrical appliances due to fluctuating voltage.
Residents have appealed to both the provincial government and Lesco, urging them to intervene and resolve the power crisis on an urgent basis. The situation has significantly impacted their daily lives, with many expressing concerns over the persistent lack of action from the society management.
When contacted by APP, TIP Society President Waqar A Sheikh provided insight into the situation. He attributed the power issues to a breakdown in an agreement with a private housing society, which had initially promised to provide power supply through a grid station on a 30-kanal plot allocated for this purpose. According to Sheikh, the private society failed to fulfill its commitments, which has contributed to the ongoing power shortage.
Sheikh acknowledged that currently, 60 percent of the society’s residents are receiving temporary power connections from Lesco, while the remaining 40 percent are still dependent on generators. He assured that the TIP management is working to address the situation and is committed to shifting all electricity meters to Lesco lines as soon as possible.
The TIP management’s efforts to resolve the crisis and restore a reliable power supply remain ongoing, but for now, residents continue to endure the hardships of living without a consistent electricity supply.
