PMD Predicts Heavy Rain Across the Country

The Met Office has announced that strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are expected to reach the upper regions starting the night of July 27, and will penetrate central and southern areas from July 29. This weather system is anticipated to bring:

Kashmir: Rain with wind and thundershowers, including some heavy falls, is forecasted for Kashmir (including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur) from the night of July 27 to July 31, with occasional breaks.

Punjab/Islamabad: Rain with wind and thundershowers, including some heavy falls, is expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Tala Gang, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, and Mianwali from July 28 to 31, with occasional breaks. Rain with wind and thundershowers is also expected in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lohdran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan, and Layyah from July 29 to 31, with occasional breaks.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Rain with wind and thundershowers, including isolated heavy falls, are expected in Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Mohmand, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Orakzai, Waziristan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan from July 28 to 31, with occasional breaks.

Balochistan: Mostly hot and humid conditions are forecasted. However, rain with wind and thundershowers, including isolated heavy falls, are expected in parts of Balochistan (Khuzdar, Kalat, Lasbella, Awaran, Panjgur, Ketch, Ziarat, Zhob, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Shirani, Kohlu, Harnai, Naseerabad, and Jaffarabad) from July 29 to 31, with occasional breaks.

Sindh: Generally hot and very humid weather is expected. Rain with wind and thundershowers are anticipated in Mithi, Sanghar, Umarkot, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Karachi, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu on July 29 and 30, with occasional breaks.

Gilgit-Baltistan: Partly cloudy to cloudy conditions are expected. Rainfall is also anticipated in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar) on July 28 and 29, with occasional breaks.

Possible Impacts and Advisories:

  • Heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding in local nullahs and streams in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kurram, Orakzai, Khyber, Mohmand, Nowshera, Swabi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Northeast Punjab, and Kashmir from July 28 to 30.
  • Urban flooding may occur in low-lying areas of Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, and Peshawar from July 28 to 30.
  • Landslides may disrupt roads in vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan during the wet period.
  • Heavy rainfall, windstorms, and lightning may impact daily routines and damage weak structures such as roofs, walls, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels.
  • Farmers are advised to adjust their activities based on the weather forecast.
