LDA Speeds Up Bund Road Construction in Lahore

The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) is escalating efforts on the Controlled Access Corridor Bund Road project to meet the upcoming deadline set by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

LDA Director General Tahir Farooq recently visited the project site, where he was updated on the progress by LDA Chief Engineer Israr Saeed, the project contractor, and Nespak officials.

Tahir Farooq reviewed the daily targets, stressing the importance of adhering to the timeline. Israr Saeed reported that asphalt work has been completed on various sections, with lane marking underway. The water-bound process is in progress on a 1.8 km section, and construction is proceeding around the clock.

Building a toll plaza from Babu Sabu Chowk to the corridor is ongoing, despite challenges posed by the recent monsoon rains. The construction of the service road is also nearing its final stages.

Recently, the LDA instructed its engineering team to accelerate the construction of phase 2 of the Bund Road Project, also known as the Babu Sabu-Niazi Chowk/Interchange scheme. This phase includes service roads on both sides of the elevated corridor from Niaz Chowk to Gulshan-e-Ravi Morr.

The service road from Babu Sabu to Gulshan-e-Ravi will have three lanes, while the road from Gulshan-e-Ravi to Babu Sabu will feature 1.5 lanes. These improvements are expected to alleviate significant mobility challenges residents face in areas like Gulshan-e-Ravi.

The Bund Road project, launched in the third quarter of 2022, aims to address the deteriorating road conditions, traffic congestion, and pollution. The project’s design underwent revisions to include an elevated expressway with additional facilities. Originally evaluated with three options, the final design includes an increased expressway height and separate lanes for local traffic, with subways providing access to nearby areas.
