Vivo V40 and V40 Pro Launched With Larger Batteries and Faster Chip

Vivo has unveiled its V40 and V40 Pro smartphones, featuring significantly larger batteries while maintaining their slim profiles. The devices also boast new camera systems and updated designs.

Design and Display

V40 and V40 Pro share identical dimensions of 164.2 x 74.9 x 7.58 millimeters and feature the same 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2,800 x 1,260 pixel resolution. Notably, the screen brightness has been significantly enhanced, reaching a peak of 4,500 nits, a substantial improvement over the previous V30 series’ display.

Internals and Software

The V40 retains the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset from its predecessor, the V30, while the V40 Pro receives a significant performance upgrade with the Dimensity 9200+ processor, a notable improvement over the Dimensity 8200 found in the previous three V Pro models.

The software side is covered by Android 14 with Funtouch OS 14 on top. Vivo has promised to roll out OS updates for 4 years.

The V40 is available in three storage configurations: 8 GB RAM with 128 GB storage, 12 GB RAM with 256 GB storage, and 12 GB RAM with 512 GB storage. Similarly, the V40 Pro offers three options: 8 GB RAM with 256 GB storage, 12 GB RAM with 256 GB storage, and 12 GB RAM with 512 GB storage.

Cameras

The V40 Pro boasts a triple camera setup on its rear, featuring a 50MP main camera equipped with a Sony IMX921 sensor, a 50MP telephoto portrait camera using a Sony IMX816 sensor, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera.

In comparison, the V40 offers a dual camera system inspired by the Gemini constellation, comprising a 50MP main camera and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. Both models incorporate optical image stabilization (OIS) and an AI Aura Light Portrait feature enabled by a ring-shaped LED flash.

Both phones have the same 50MP selfie camera based on a Samsung ISOCELL JN1 sensor.

Battery and Pricing

Both models feature 5,500 mAh batteries, the largest capacity ever offered in the V series. Furthermore, they support 80W FlashCharge fast charging technology. Vivo claims that the batteries in the V40 and V40 Pro can endure 1,600 full charge cycles while maintaining at least 80% of their original capacity, significantly extending the phones’ lifespan.

The V40 and V40 Pro are available in Meteor Blue, Moonlight White, and Stellar Silver color options, with the V40 featuring additional Nebula Purple and Sunglow Peach colorways.

The vanilla V40 starts at $480 in India while the V40 Pro will go for $655.
