YouTube has commenced a gradual rollout of its community notes feature to a limited user base. Social media platforms are currently circulating screenshots of invitations extended to participants in the pilot program for this new feature, which aims to enable viewers to contribute brief explanatory notes or corrections to specific video content.
YouTube initially unveiled its community notes feature in June. This initiative is designed to enhance viewer understanding and accuracy regarding video content, particularly in the lead-up to the US presidential election.
While no official launch date has been announced, YouTube has incorporated a dedicated section within its Help database to guide users in writing and submitting community notes.
The pilot program is currently limited to English-speaking mobile users in the United States. Participants are being selected through email invitations or notifications within their Creator Studios accounts.
YouTube intends to gather feedback from this initial group of testers to refine the feature’s functionality and determine criteria for identifying “helpful,” “somewhat helpful,” or “unhelpful” notes before a wider public release.
Last month, YouTube Shorts received 6 new features inspired by TikTok. First off, there is an “Add Yours” sticker that lets you quickly interact with creators using stickers while other features are focused on letting you make short-form content quicker than before. These let you create captions for your videos automatically or have your text narrated in four different voices.
Other features let you interact with your audience using games inside Shorts, while the Auto Layout feature automatically converts longer videos into Shorts while keeping the main subject in focus. Lastly, you can now also create remix versions of already existing remixed videos on YouTube.
