TikTok is introducing new direct messaging features, including the highly anticipated group chat functionality. While not universally accessible, the platform will allow users to create group chats with up to 32 participants.
Users can initiate group chats through their inbox by tapping the Chat button or selecting a contact from the messages list followed by the “More options…” button. From there, participants can be added before starting the group chat.
Alternatively, users can initiate group chats by sharing posts with multiple friends. After selecting the Share button, the “Create group chat” option allows users to choose recipients and add a message before starting the conversation.
Group chat invitations can be accepted through the inbox. However, users can only invite mutual followers to join existing group chats. Individuals aged 13 to 15 will not have access to group chats. For 16 and 17-year-olds, group chat participation is restricted to groups with at least one mutual friend. Additionally, these users must manually approve new members joining their created group chats.
Additionally, TikTok is also bringing updates to individual DMs (direct messages). You will soon be able to share stickers and create your own, similar to other chatting apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, etc.
Remember that these features are not available in Pakistan yet, but should roll out soon enough. Stay tuned.
