Two poachers have been caught red-handed along the Ravi River in Lahore, with ten rare turtles seized from their possession. This arrest is part of an ongoing operation targeting illegal hunting and animal smuggling.
During the operation, individuals engaged in illegal wildlife trafficking fired on the Wildlife raiding team. Senior Punjab Minister Maryam Aurangzeb praised the efforts and bravery of the raiding team and the Wildlife Department staff.
Following instructions from Senior Punjab Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, an extensive crackdown on illegal wildlife trade is underway across the province. The Special Wildlife Squad Punjab led the raid, overseen by Director General Wildlife Mudassar Riaz Malik.
According to DG Wildlife, seven of the recovered turtles are alive, while three were found dead. The arrested suspects, Sarfraz and Fayyaz Chabeel, were found with pistols, bullets, nets, and axes. Tortoises are protected under Schedule III of the Wildlife Act.
