Samsung, a pioneer in the foldable smartphone market, is reportedly expanding its portfolio with the addition of a second book-style foldable device. This new model speculated to be named the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim, would join the current Galaxy Z Fold 6, marking a shift in Samsung’s strategy of releasing a single book-style foldable annually since 2019.
Adding weight to these rumors, a Samsung device with the model number SM-F958N has surfaced on the Korean Testing & Research Institute for Chemical Industry (KTR) certification platform. The model number closely resembles the Galaxy Z Fold 6 (SM-F956N), further fueling speculation that this could be the rumored Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim. The certification suggests an imminent launch in Samsung’s home market of South Korea.
Rumors are swirling that the slim version could be launched as early as September 25th in South Korea. The device may also debut in China as the Samsung Galaxy W25, intensifying competition in the foldable smartphone market against rivals like Huawei and Honor. However, there is no word on a release date for the US and other global markets.
As the name suggests, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim is expected to prioritize portability, potentially becoming Samsung’s thinnest foldable phone yet. While it may not outshine the Honor Magic V3, rumors suggest a closed thickness of around 10mm, a notable reduction compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s 12.1mm profile.
This increased thinness is reportedly achieved by removing the S Pen compartment as well as the 0.3mm digitizer film necessary for S Pen functionality.
