A new development has surfaced in the case of Islamabad police officers who were dismissed for allegedly aiding robbers. These officers, who were fired for misconduct, now face accusations of stealing Rs17.5 million in cash and jewelry from the robbers they had arrested.
On August 26, DIG Islamabad Police Syed Ali Raza dismissed four officers, including SHO Sub-Inspector Asim Ghaffar of the Noon police station, after an inquiry revealed their involvement in releasing suspects in exchange for bribes. The suspects were wanted by Rawalpindi police for a robbery in Wah Cantt. The internal investigation confirmed the officers’ misconduct, leading to the dismissal of SHO Ghaffar and the demotion of an ASI.
According to the case filed at Wah Cantt Police Station, Rawalpindi, the robbers had stolen a significant amount of valuables from a citizen’s home, including Rs5.8 million in cash, gold jewelry worth Rs6 million, over $16,000, watches valued at Rs2.6 million, weapons, and CCTV cameras. The robbers also subjected the homeowner, Aman Mir, and his butler to physical abuse.
The case took a surprising turn when SHO Ghaffar filed a report accusing his subordinates of stealing the recovered stolen goods. According to his report, the ASI and two constables had recovered the stolen items, including cash, gold jewelry, foreign currency, watches, weapons, and CCTV cameras. However, instead of depositing the items, they allegedly kept them for themselves.
The stolen items remain unaccounted for, and there are allegations that the dismissed officers took the loot and sent the robbers to jail on unrelated charges.
