To enhance road safety, helmetless motorcyclists are now barred from using all model roads in Lahore, and enforcement efforts have been stepped up through artificial intelligence (AI).
According to the traffic police spokesperson, roads including The Mall, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Canal Road, Maulana Shaukat Ali Road, and various routes in Cantt will see no leniency for motorcyclists riding without helmets.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Ammara Athar has intensified the crackdown on helmet violations after receiving directives from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. An AI system has been introduced to enforce helmet laws, alongside manual checks. In the past month alone, AI monitoring resulted in 202,957 challans, while manual enforcement led to 249,684 tickets being issued.
The crackdown targets those riding without helmets and those improperly wearing them—such as placing them on the fuel tank or hanging them from an arm. Divisional and circle officers have been ordered to strictly implement these rules, with warnings of consequences for sector in-charges who fail to do so.
CTO Ammara Athar noted that the initiative has already led to a noticeable reduction in head injury cases, with the overall goal being to ensure the safety of citizens and prevent road accidents.
